Continuous Improvement Engineer

Henderson Products, Inc. a division of Douglas Dynamics, is seeking an individual that will be responsible for consistently improving the overall efficiency and functioning of HPI manufacturing facility as a CI Engineer. This includes recognizing problem areas, developing improvement plans, executing those plans, providing assistance for employees and analyzing results. The CI Engineer is responsible for execution and support of the continuous improvement initiatives in areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost and the elimination of waste from our processes.


  • Act as a change agent in the organization by driving change and implementing continuous improvement processes, while utilizing and improving existing methodologies
    • Analyze, develop, ratify, implement, and standardize manufacturing best practices across HPI
    • Develop standard work and job instructions to help train SFA’s
  • Facilitate the development of A3 problem solving plans to ensure proper root cause elimination of problems
  • Monitor product and process improvement milestones to ensure on-time completion and sustainability
  • Assist in Facilitation of Kaizen events and other continuous improvement projects involving production, facilities layout, inventory control, quality, and administrative processes
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to management for new improvements and initiatives
    • Assisting in providing AR documentation and ROI for Capital Investments
  • Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment
  • Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, and controls to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
  • Development of cost standards and cost estimates
    • Assurance of material and labor efficiency
    • Use ECN / ECR process for proper tracking of BOM and part changes
    • Use AutoDesk Inventor to document parts used for installation

  • Mechanical aptitude and problem analysis and resolution ability; solid decision-making skills.
  • Technological skills required with knowledge of operation’s manufacturing software, Microsoft products, including Excel and Word in Windows environment, as well as AutoCAD Suite including AutoDesk Inventor
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong team player
    • Time management; ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
    • Ability to work independently
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as prints, order requirements, and equipment specs


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Business, or Related field required
  • 1-3 years experience in Demand Point, Kaizen and/or Lean Manufacturing techniques preferred
  • 3 years direct experience with using solids based CAD design tools.


Normal office environment plus exposure to noise, weather and equipment when working in production and testing areas. Some travel required to investigate execution of design intent.
