Position Details:   

A successful candidate will be reporting to the Design and Construction Manager and will be responsible for designing and developing a broad array of structural and building related products to meet specific customer needs. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Design Services and Bill of Material (BOM) departments.  This individual will be responsible for accountability metrics and reporting.  This position requires a demonstrated proficiency in 3D design software SolidWorks and Tekla which will be used extensively in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the CAD and BOM departments performing rapid design and customization for components, products and buildings and entry into the Electronic Resource Processing (ERP) system.
  • Responsible for accountability key performance indicator metrics for the departments that concentrate on quality, production, cost, and time to complete. Develop, report, and improve on those metrics.
  • Participate with the manager in interviewing, selection, hiring, coaching, development, performance appraisals, addressing conflicts/complaints and resolving issues. Work with HR to address any concerns as well.
  • Lead departments focusing on serving external and internal customers with a sense of urgency.
  • Provide effective direction for subordinate designers and BOM writers to ensure consistency.
  • Document, identify issues and recommend solutions and improvements to the Manager regarding both departments.
  • Participate in project calls and meetings to understand the needs of a customer.
  • Utilize CAD software tools to create building blueprints including overall layouts and all relevant construction details.
  • Perform quality control to other documents as required.
  • Develop practical solutions to unique challenges posed by a customer’s requirements.
  • Assist with establishing engineering standards and manufacturing design standards.
  • Providing creative ideas and cost saving ideas to improve product design.
  • Develops and executes to departments budgets.
  • Work on multiple projects while remaining highly organized.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:      

  • Bachelors’ or Associate Degree required or equivalent combination of education, related experience, or training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Language Skills:     

Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and other documents necessary for the position. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:              

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:                

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
