780 HR – Conservation Technician

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is seeking a Conservation Technician to assist with the promotion and installation of conservation practices in Delaware County.  The successful candidate will assist with engineering, surveys, designs, seeding plans, and practice checkout for the various conservation practices; including grassed waterways, shallow wetlands, windbreaks, contour buffer strips, riparian forest buffers, cover crops and others.

Practical experience with agriculture and /or natural resources is preferred. Must be able to work independently, have strong interpersonal skills and be computer efficient with Microsoft programs. High School graduation is required. Must have a valid Iowa Driver’s License.  This is a temporary position with the State of Iowa, up to 40 hrs. per week, 780 hrs. total by June 30, 2019. Wage: $15/hr.  **Person hired may have the opportunity to work additional hours as a temporary employee with the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District.

This position will be based out of the NRCS Field Office in Manchester. The position will be under supervision of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s Field Representative. Coordination of day to day activities is by the District/Soil Conservationist who will assist in resolving any conflicts in assignments. This position does not supervise other employees. Performance of this position will be reviewed regularly by the Field Representative. Successful applicants may require a federal background check and clearance to gain full access to Federal computer and online tools.
