Quality Calibration Technician

The Calibration Technician’s major responsibility is to calibrate instruments and gages used in the inspection and measurement systems at Exide-Bristol and to track the calibration records of these instruments and gages. This will help to ensure that only calibrated gages and instruments are used.

• Calibrate and repair plant gauges and instruments which are listed below, but not limited to:
o Scales
o Micrometers
o Calipers
o Moisture balance
o Electrical lab circuits (testing equipment)
o Pressure gauges
o Temperature gauges
o Timers
o Voltmeters
• Repair gauges and order new ones as needed.
• Track Calibration records on computer system. Be familiar with GagePack.
• Periodically calibrate gauges at other sites. (example Sales Branches).
• Perform Gauge R & R Studies (MSA) and maintain the records.
• Writing, revising and maintaining calibration procedures and instructions.
• Preparing new equipment for the manufacturing floor.
• Updating calibration systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Work with and schedule outside vendors to come in an calibrate. Verify their work and update the calibration system accordingly.
• Report out weekly and monthly to staff (QA Supervisor and QA Manager the current status of the calibration status). Overdue reports, coming due in the next 2 weeks report, etc.
• Works with persons in the Quality Department, Plant Superintendents and Supervisors, and Production Operators to ensure the gages and instruments are calibrated. Other contacts include vendors, customers, and auditors.

Education and/or Experience – Associate degree in technical field preferred plus two years of calibration experience in a manufacturing environment.

Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, procedures, specifications, and/or government regulations. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, auditors, and customers.

Computer/Equipment Skills – Must have good knowledge of computer systems as well as programs and software required to complete and document the basic functions of this position. Ability to perform basic data entry for various quality control applications.

Mathematical Skills – Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plant and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands – Physical demands include hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting of 60 lbs., simple grasping, pulling, pushing, twisting, and repetitive use of hands.

Work Environment – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, acid fumes or airborne lead particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
