RMC is 1 of only 251 U.S. hospitals (7%) to receive top rating on patient experience
Regional Medical Center in Manchester was recently awarded a five-star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), putting it in the top 7% of the 3,553 hospitals surveyed nationwide. The HCAHPS Summary Star Rating combines all information about the specific aspects of patient care experience measured by the HCAHPS Survey. Regional Medical Center has a contract with Press Ganey to distribute the patient satisfaction survey to its patients. Press Ganey then submits the survey results to HCAHPS.
This star rating, which is similar to restaurant reviews, encourages hospitals to strive to continuously improve the patient experience and quality of care delivered to all patients.
CMS added the star ratings to make it easier for consumers to use the information on the Hospital Compare website (www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare) and spotlight excellence in healthcare quality. Each hospital will have 12 star ratings—one for each of the 11 publicly reported HCAHPS measures, and one as the HCAHPS Summary Star Rating. The Summary Star Rating combines the 11 HCAHPS star ratings into one comprehensive metric.
“We are dedicated to providing patient-centered care by striving to meet all of the patient’s needs, not just their medical requirements. In order to meet the patient’s expectations, RMC has established a culture of continuous improvement that drives our employees to reach for a higher level of care for our patients. We strive to put our patients first and empower them and their families by encouraging them to be active participants in their medical care. Delivering high quality, patient-centered care is a standard that our patients have come to expect at Regional Medical Center. I am very proud of our employees’ efforts to create an exceptional patient experience which resulted in achieving a 5-star rating,” stated Lon Butikofer, RN, PhD, Chief Executive Officer.
